It seems insane that nowadays we plan out our entire lives from such a young age. Before we even know who we are we have picked out the subject that will lead us to our lifelong careers. It is so hard to make the right decision when you are so young and even if you do make the right decision, things change. So it is no wonder that at some point in our lives we are faced with a career change beginning with online resumes.

If you are unhappy in your current role, it is important to make a change, for your health and happiness and that of the people around you. It is very difficult to see someone you love unhappy because of their job, especially when they can make a change for the better. Make a list of all the dream jobs you've ever imagined and start from there.

A good starting point when you are trying to make a change but don't know what to do, is to make a list of everything you can do. Write down all your training and qualifications and all your experience. If you had a part time job when you were younger that is even vaguely related to what you want to do now it will help you to get your foot in the door.

Sometimes you don't need to leave your current employer and find a completely new career to be happy. It might just be that you need a change and to challenge yourself more. There may be a different career path with the same employer, or simply further training that will give you the push and new perspective to find joy in your job again.

Where job hunting is concerned, nowadays it is a matter of quantity and quality. The competition out there is fierce and for every job you apply for there are a huge amount of applicants. Your application needs to stand out, but you also need to be applying to as many places as you possibly can. Give yourself the best possible chance of succeeding.

Make sure that your resume is up to date and as concise as possible. If it has been a while since you updated it, you might be better off starting from scratch and writing a new one than trying to edit your old one. Use a minimalist format that is clear and simple so that whoever is reading it has easy access to all the information they need.

Try to prepare for all eventualities before the interview. They will ask you about your past experience, training and interests in relation to the job and it looks much better if you have the answers ready to go. If you do not know something, be honest but express interest in it to show that you are willing to learn.

No matter what job you are going for, you are able to get it if you have the confidence in yourself and have prepared thoroughly. If you need further training you can get it, but if the employer doesn't believe you are capable they will not employ you, so you need to believe in yourself before you can get other people to believe in you.
