So you've decided to go the home dog grooming route in order to save bucks, right? Well, you'll need some good dog grooming tips before you even go near your dog with a pair of clippers or scissors! These are the right equipment to use and dog grooming Duncan tips so that your dog is groomed safely and comes out looking pristine.

Proper knowledge of pet grooming entails your understanding of your particular breed of pet and the grooming process needed. There are distinct procedures that should be adhered to if the pet has short fur unlike long hair. There are distinct needs as regards the age of your animal. Without forgetting, every type has its own special peculiarities.

Brushes and Combs- Canines with medium to long hair can enjoy a lot of good grooming with brushes and combs. Regular brushing will help loosen and remove dead skin or dander, dirt, oil and dead hair. Brushing can also spread natural skin oil over the hair, giving the coat a healthy shine. Some brushes also double as detanglers so matted hair can be straightened or removed. Brushes and combs may also be used during shampooing to separate the hair for easy drying later. Choose brushes with rubber grips to prevent slips and bristles that are durable yet strong enough to detangle.

Combs may also be used as an effective tool to detangle hair. Choose thinner-toothed combs for canines with thin coats and wider-toothed combs for canines with thicker coats. To remove fleas and dirt, use flea combs that are especially designed to pull fleas away from the skin and hair. Flea combs may also be used dipped in anti-flea solution.

It is fairly simple to recognize the frequency with which your pet should be bathed simply by observing its behavior. If your pet is scratching or appears to be dirty then it is time to groom your pet. If you notice that your pet is scratching every 10 days then you probably need to groom your pet every week.

Lathering Up- At this point, splash the pet with warm water until he's thoroughly saturated. Or, if you're putting him in the tub, put the non-slip mat in it. To prevent soapy water from getting in his ears, you can use cotton wool. Mix 15-20 ml of shampoo in the jug of water and start lathering him up. Avoid putting the soap on his face for now. Work up a really good lather on the pet's body. Then carefully move to his face.

Make sure, though, that you use the proper cleaning products. For instance, it is really not a good idea to use human shampoo for your pet. Sure it may work to clean his hair, but the levels of pH in human shampoo is stronger than the pH level of petgie shampoo. Therefore, if you continuously use human shampoo on your pet, you can actually give him dry itchy skin.

Where to get pet cleaning supplies? Your local pet store and vet's clinic are great places to shop for pet cleaning supplies. Plus, you can also get the latest product news and trends in cleaning. However, you can always try to shop on your own by going online.
