While unity and equality are two different concepts, there are close ties. As such, when a business, company, theater group or university offers Diversity training Baltimore md, the material often focuses on both areas. For example, one theater troupe, the Baltimore Improv Group offers this type of training through performance based education and workshops on an ongoing basis.

The group, Baltimore Improv Project or BIG provides an improv theater and university for those interested in community based action and performance related to equal rights. For, the group is working to change the world into one in which all individuals have the same equity and rights as others. In order to accomplish this goal, all performances are offered to students and community members free of charge.

The first areas on which BIG wants to focus on this type of training is in the leadership, student body, ensemble and members. For, with so many different points of view and diverse perspectives, the group continues to grow and strengthen, thus creating artistic work which is original and reflective of the city the improv group calls home. One way the group makes this happen is by providing performances which are 100% free to all those in attendance.

In most cases, those in attendance are members of underserved neighborhoods and aspiring actors and comedians. As such, the university is open to all whom are interested in attending. During rehearsals, the ensemble works to create skits which are entertaining, educational and informative. After which, the skits are presented free of charge at the BIG theater and different locations around the city.

For, the primary goal of the group is to create work which is inclusive of all areas of society. Unlike traditional comedy in which minorities are often attacked, BIG strives to include the LGBTQ+ community, military members, mentally and physically challenged individuals, senior citizens, veterans and people of color in positive rather than negative connotations during performances. As such, the group aims to train actors and comedians to create art which is more appropriate and respectful while at the university, attending workshops and later in life.

There are three different areas and programs provided by the organization. For example, increasing access to performances, programs and scholarships in Baltimore is one aspect. In this case, the group works to facilitate and communicate with performers and students to raise awareness of diversity, equity, inclusion and empathy.

By providing scholarships, the group allows underserved youth a chance to perform by learning the art of improv. Whereas, building bridges across community organizations, colleges and corporations can help educate employees, students, volunteers on how to become more accepting of others. While, providing ongoing talent opportunities and supporting mentorship will only continue to strengthen the organization.

Ultimately, the goal of all these programs is to provide information, insight and promote diversity and equality through a number of events and workshops. In doing so, those in attendance learn how to accept, include and tolerate difference in performances and life. After which, it is hoped that these individuals will take those lessons and share with others through performance and ongoing work in the area of equal rights.
