Lightning protection systems are the newest development in modern technology. The systems are being used in millions of homes, oilfields, towers, factories and buildings. There are many protection systems that are made to dissipate the strikes of thunders. Each one has its own merits to the structures. When it comes with oilfield lightning protection, individuals can choose their own system to be installed in their homes or buildings.

Installing a system cannot be done by doing it yourself. Only reputable and experienced contractors can install it. Certified specialists use top notch materials that will ensure that every procedure of the installation was being taken. They are recognized by different safety organizations and companies.

The conductor cables are heavy cables that will carry the currents from the rods towards the ground. They are installed along the tops and edges of roofs, then move one to one or two corners from the top into the ground. The current will simply follow the cables and will dissipate once it reaches the surface below.

Without a direct path to reach the surface, lightning strikes may randomly choose a conductor available inside the structure. The current will damage electrical lines, gas pipes, water pipes, cable wires and phone wires or the building itself. The current will always follow the different paths just to reach the ground. As a result, it presents dangerous hazard to all structures.

To make the system work, the aluminum materials and highly conductive copper materials are being used to provide a low resistance pathway to ground the flow of electricity. The components and materials are specifically manufactured for one purpose. When the grounding network is already installed, the strike is caught and transferred to the ground without any impact on the structure.

The maintenance plans may include updates on electrical components, roof renovations, HVAC alterations and satellite dish installations. Maintenances are also required when telephone wires and cable television wires have been serviced for a while already. The inspector will advise and make recommendations regarding industry requirements and maintenance plans.

The strike termination devices or simply called as rods will intercept the strikes make a safe path that will take the harmful energy directly in the ground. However, lightning would hit a location whether it is protected or not. It only intercepts then transfers the electricity right on the surface. It will direct the current to surface rather than traveling to a buildings electrical system or plumbing.

Researching is the only way to learn and understand more about the types of systems. It is important to gather as much information as possible before making any decision. Make sure to analyze all the aspects and concepts that will happen afterwards. Plan ahead and iron out all the important details involved. Never make any irrational decisions but instead take things slow.

Installing the system is expensive. Acquiring it is not easy. Owners who wanted to have one will have to consider the type of protection, its size, quality and costs. Make sure you are prepared to pay for all the possible payments required.
