These are very small and slimy creatures that love to stay in damp areas. They can also cause a big damage to you home garden especially if you have planted vegetables. These include the low lying vegetable such as cabbages. They can at times slip into the house when you are not aware. This causes a big traumatic thought leaving behind a very bad picture or image. When it reaches this point know that there is a serious issue which must be addressed immediately. This article gives how to ensure slug retention is achieved.

Use natural deterrents. There are several natural deterrents that can be used to prevent the occurrence of these creatures in your home garden. One of the natural prevention includes use of egg shells. Crush the shells into smaller particles and sprinkle them around your garden. This provides an unpleasant environment for the creatures to crawl hence avoiding the area. Other things that can be used to get rid of these pests include ginger, beer coffee and copper.

Introduction of natural predators. This is also a very effective way of keeping such pests away from your farm. Research on natural predators for these pests such as duck, frogs, salamanders and garter snakes. Some of these such as ducks tend to destroy plants too. So, when you are introducing natural predators into your farm, you should be very careful on which ones you introduce because not all of them are safe.

Ensure you till soil frequently. These pests use the ground soil as a breeding place where they lay their eggs. Multiplication in number of these pests occurs when the eggs tend to hatch. So, preventing their hatching may reduce their population in the farm. Tilling the soil ensure that these breeding sites are destroyed. Tilling also is a way of killing the eggs before they can hatch. Ensure you keep a frequent soil tilling routine.

Watering schedule. You should also consider changing your schedule of watering. Moist environments encourage the movement and spread of these slugs in the farm. Watering is a major way of keeping the ground moist. Look for ways to reduce this moisture in the soil. Water your plants very early in the morning so that before the night falls, the ground is dry. Water less frequently too.

Hand picking can also work. Handpicking can also be considered as an effective way of getting rid of the pests. Ensure you pick them frequently to prevent them from multiplying. This may be very creepy for people who do not like their appearance and therefore may not be effective. It requires a lot of courage and only those with courage can use this method.

Use insecticides. This is mostly used by many farmers. There are several types of insecticides that can be used to get rid of these pests. Consider using non toxic pesticides so as not to poison the crops that are intended to be consumed by human. Most common pesticides that are recommended include the iron phosphate and metaldehyde.

Clear debris. Debris found in the farm act as hiding ground for these pests. They also act as breeding grounds for these animals. Always consider cleaning your farm frequently to avoid accumulation of the waste in the farm. You should clean the waste as soon as they occur in the farm.
