Carbon is an important element. It exists in many forms. One of its forms is activated carbon Philippines. This has many uses. Basically, it is derived from charcoal and it is a complex product. Activated charcoal can be classified into a number of classes. Classification is done according to behavior, surface characteristics, industrial applications, preparation methods and size. Chemical scientists have for a long time been fascinated by this element. Every day, studies reveal something new about this kind of carbon.

There is more than one source of activated charcoal. The major sources are coconut husk, petroleum, coal and wood. There are two major preparation methods. One involves the intensive use of chemicals while the other is physical in nature. Phosphoric acid can be used to get the best output possible. Other chemicals that scientists employ include zinc chloride, potassium hydroxide, and calcium chloride. The physical procedure requires the use of oxygen that has been heated to a high temperature.

The powdered classification of active charcoal has elements with a very small diameter. They can pass through different types of sieves. Therefore, they are highly functional. To get the powder, a number of procedures are carried out. Crushing and grounding is one of them. The final output is perfect as an addition to other processes but not as a dedicated vessel. Applications include usage in clarifiers, and raw water intake.

There is also the granulated variety. This is a product of crushing however; the crushing is not very intense resulting to something with larger particle size. It is a bit larger than the powdered form. This results to desirable surface area and head loss making it perfect for the absorption of gasses and vapors. Easy diffusion comes is useful in water treatment.

Charcoal can be impregnated to get something better. The combination of elements takes place in the laboratory and under special conditions. Elements that are likely to be used in the impregnation process are silver and iodine. The final result will be antiseptic and antimicrobial in nature. These features will come in handy in a wide variety of real life circumstances.

Activated charcoal has desired chemical and physical properties. They include a high degree of micro porosity making them ideal for specialized applications. One gram of this element has a high surface area. To further enhance the surface area, chemical treatment is needed. To be able to determine the size of a chemical element, one will need to use an electron microscope.

This element has been found to be hard. It ranks higher than other elements in the scale of hardness. This makes it extremely valuable for diverse applications. Hardness is simply the ability to resist attrition. It also implies to physical integrity and the ability to withstand friction. Some varieties of carbon are harder than others. It all depends on raw materials and the method of preparation.

Modern day studies are unraveling new uses of activated carbon. Since it was discovered, it has been applied to many industrial uses including gas purification, metal extraction and gold extraction. This element also has a number of medical, domestic and business uses. There is an intricate chemical preparation process involved. This procedure requires a high level of competence and many years of experience.
