One of the most common types of car repairs is that of chips, cracks or broken windshields. Before you decide on someone to engage for your mobile windshield repair in Surrey, BC, you may want to understand the process of these repairs. This will prevent any "unnecessary repairs" deemed critical by less reputable dealers.

If the glass on your car is damaged by something other than collision, comprehensive cover will pay out if it was caused by fire, vandalism, storms and animal collision. This type of cover is usually optional so you'll need to check if it is included in your policy. If it is, also check whether this covers the windscreen. The reason for this being, that some plans specifically exclude the windscreens of vehicles.

Chips and scratches in the glass can usually be fixed, but this will depend on the size, how deep it is and where the crack may be located. It might be good practice to get advice from a professional before deciding to have the windscreen repaired or replaced. Glass damage of between 1 inch wide and 3 inches long can usually be repaired, while damage that is larger than hands-width usually necessitates replacement. Although, with new improvements in the industry, sometimes much longer cracks are able to be repaired.

To make the resin sold, a curing light is then applied, which binds the cracked layers to each other. Extra resin layers may be needed to fill the hole and once this is done, this is polished to protect the resin from substances in the air and in windscreen washer fluids.

Once you decide to claim, you can usually do this by phone, on line or in person. An agent will advise you regarding the options available to you on your policy. They will also advise that you can either have the repair carried out through a company that they have a contract with, or that you can approach your own choice of repair shop.

Even after a repair, you might still be able to detect evidence of a crack in your glass. The repaired spot may look like a smear or a smudge on the glass. If this is directly in the way of the driver's sight, it may be a better idea to replace rather than repair.

To go about fixing a crack, the technician will create a tip, which is essentially the end of the crack. Resin will be injected into the crack, starting from the point of impact and following along the length of the crack until the tip has been reached. Once all the resin has been inserted, the technician can begin to cure it.

Also note that there have been some companies who could claim multiple windscreen replacements from your insurer, under your policy, without your knowledge! This could end up in you losing your insurance for making false claims! So, with all this information at your disposal, make sure you chat to your insurer first if you need to claim for a windshield repair in Surrey, BC.
