In order to feel warm at home, you need to add natural materials like wood to make the place feel warmer and more homelike. Other than the furniture, the wood can work in the structural support and many other parts of the architecture. However, this does not translate to environmental destruction. By putting the reclaimed antique exposed beams in Austin, TX to good use, we contribute to reducing the environmental destruction since less new timber is required.

The reclaimed wood manufacturers have come up with different ways of putting the timber to use. The reclaimed wood, unlike the new ones, tends to be stronger. Normally, one expects that older materials are susceptible to rot as compared to new ones, however, the reclaimed wood sources such as the old barns and docks were most likely constructed from the old-growth trees which comes with tighter grain as well as increased strength overall.

However, in the process of reclaiming the woods, not all will come out as whole pieces. The manufacturers have come up with an ingenious solution that involves creating glulam beams from the process of gluing and laminating smaller timber to make larger pieces. Unlike the solid beams, the glulam ones can be bent and curved as the user deems fit.

There is nothing as good as conserving our environment, and by putting the antique beams to use, the need to cut down the trees and clear forests for timber source is greatly reduced. However, it is not just about the environmental conservation, the use of antique beams offers endless opportunities in remodeling and renovation designs.

In case you desire to get the traditional exposed timber look or design, the best way is to leave the reclaimed wood exposed. However, if all that is desired is a modern look, there are many designs that may be used. You can choose to cover or paint part of the beam or cover it entirely. White beams against a white ceiling for instance, give you the sleek look, and installing the woven grass textile on the beams gives them a tropical feel.

Those who are interested in a more traditional look simply leave them exposed without any painting or covering, however, for those who are interested in a modern look, the opportunity to be creative are limitless. They can be painted partly or entirely, or covered partly or entirely. White painting against a white ceiling gives the beams a sleek look. The grass textile can be installed around each beam to give them a tropical look. The lighting also helps achieve the accentuation of geometry and repetition while bricks or panel added between the posts add warmth by keeping cold away particularly in cooler areas.

Other than in the structural parts of the building, the ones that are not weight-bearing can find several other uses. With wire brushing and custom band sawing, they get that eye catching texture that allows them to be used to hang room dividers. Their lovely colors and tight grains also make them perfect to be used as steps, benches and stools, tables, shelves, and countertops.

However, not all the timber that is recycled can be used to offer support as some of them are not weight-bearing. In this case, consider carving this kind of beam to an interesting shape that you desire. In order to make it even more appealing, consider adding wire brushing or custom band sawing. There are several other ways through which they can be put to use. These include the use as steps, benches and stools, tables, counter-tops, and shelving among others.
