American College Testing, also referred to as Act, is a standardized test that is often taken by high school students looking to continue education and go to college. This is basically a college readiness assessment that is given in the United States by the ACT group. It is considered when it comes to most college admissions. This is why great emphasis is placed on scoring high on this exam. ACT prep Palm Beach refers to the many services and resources available to students in Palm Beach FL who want to do well on this test.

In 1959, Everette Franklin Lindquist was the first person to administer this test. It was in competition with the Scholastic Aptitude Test made available through College Board. Today, that test is more commonly known as the SAT. Initially, the ACT involved four tests: english, social studies, mathematics and natural sciences.

Social studies was switched to reading in 1989 and the natural science portion was named the science reasoning test. Other changes have been made to the test over the years, including an optional writing test that was added in 2005, as well as the change to a computer-based test in spring 2015. Paper format will still be an option for facilities not ready to adopt the computer testing approach.

All four-year colleges in America accept the ACT, but the universities may place different emphasis on standardized tests. This means that they might consider other important factors, such as GPA, rank in class and the extracurricular activities of the student. The four tests each receive an individual score between 1 and 36. Then there is a composite score that includes the whole average of the scores.

This exam is taken around the globe, although primarily in the United States and Canada. It can take more than three hours to compile, not include break times. The english portion takes 45 minutes, while math is allocated 60 minutes. Then there is reading and science portions that include 35 minutes. Thirty minutes is the time limit for the optional writing portion. Overall, the test is known be intense and can be stressful, which is why preparedness is key for those who want to be successful.

There are multiple ways that prep can be done. Study guides, practice tests and tutors are some of the most common techniques used to help with studying. ACT offers test prep tools and there are plenty of books and articles online and in-print that provide students with valuable tips and information. People might even work with professionals who are able to provide them with necessary help.

This purpose is designed to identify the education development and overall capability of high school-level students who want to take on college studies. The exams offer multiple choice questions, with the optional writing portion designed to test the ability of a student to plan and write out an essay. Overall, the results of the test will be used to check the college readiness of a student.

It may be hard to do well in higher-level schooling. A lot of work is involved. Although these tests are used to see how prepared a student is for this workload, this is not the only indicator of abilities. People who dedicate themselves to their studies can achieve good results. Still, most colleges do consider applicant scores, especially at prestigious schools.
