Experience is very much valued in the employment industry that whether you're too old or too young for the job you'll be guaranteed a position. Despite the experience however, some older workers are having a hard time when it comes to getting a job. Do you know what's the source of this problem? Its the resume. Format is the first thing that employers or hiring managers notice in a resume

With all those things in your resume, this will be the first thing that employers notice within your resume. Traditionally, a resume format is composed of an educational background first followed by work experience then ended with the skills enumeration. This is a usual format for people who just got out of college and is looking for a job for the first time. For those looking for their first job, this is a good format however may not be very effective for those older workers. Instead, try to have your resume with a format that is skills first followed by the work experience. If you choose to have an educational background line or page on the first page or line of your resume, you need to make sure that is short and precise.

Dates

One thing in the resume that could distract employers are the dates. As an example, if the hiring manager or interviewer sees that the date of graduation in your educational background dates back 20 years ago, they would immediately question your outdated skills and knowledge. As much as possible, employers want people with fresh skills and knowledge that matches today's business needs for the reason that these are more productive and efficient. A good way to cover up the dates in your resume is by simply specifying the time you have spent for that job or study.

Be specific about learning new things

Despite your experience and your high level of skills you should still have the willingness to learn new things and further improve the great level of skills that you have now. This is something that employers or hiring managers are looking for in applicants whether they're newbies or veterans. As the company grow, employers want their staff or employers to grow with them as well further enhancing their skills and knowledge. A good way to show your willingness to learn is by emphasizing your interest in seminars as well as training provided inside the company.

Emphasize on your work ethics

With regards to work ethics in any generation of workers, the older ones actually have better ethics towards work. Emphasize your reliability, responsibility, loyalty to the company as well as your visions of growing with the company.

Confidence is key

Another thing that would make your resume stand out regardless if you're an older worker or a freshie is that you should be confident in writing it. Make sure that you pick your words or content in your resume and they should express your confidence. A good way to do this is by emphasizing these words on the work experience part of your resume. Use words such as I supervised, I managed, I controlled, I spear-headed and others while you write the job descriptions.
