You are totally confident with your business and you have the perfect online marketing plan in mind. But, things are not going the way you planned it would be. Analytics show that you are getting a good number of visitors every day. However, you are not making any money. What's wrong in this picture? It is probably your website design that is pushing your prospective customers away.

Given that you are not a professional website designer, you need to hire one to design your website. Although the website designer will be doing all the work, he will be asking for your inputs and preferences. By working together, both of you should be aware about the five deadly web design mistakes to avoid. What are these web design mistakes anyway?

Audio or Video Files on Autoplay

Imagine yourself entering a website, waiting for it to load and suddenly, a trance song plays. That moment might literally make you jump off your seat. You should know better; don't do this to your visitors. Autoplay media files are a web design mistake that you should avoid at all cost. If you want to put up audio and media files, let your visitors play it for themselves.

Pop-ups

There is nothing more annoying than being hounded with several pop-up ads before a visitor can see what your website has to offer. There are website designers who put pop-up windows thinking that this is an easier way to inform visitors about the business. However, what happens is the opposite. Visitors get frustrated with the surfing interruptions and would prefer moving away from the website entirely. Avoid using pop-ups or keep them at a minimum.

Grammar and Spelling Errors

Your website should be professional and it will highlight your expertise in your business. But, if there are grammatical and spelling errors, your visitors will be instantly turned off. Your content is part of your website design and no matter how beautiful the site is, visitors will not put their confidence in your business if you can't even check your grammar and spelling. This web design mistake is pretty common so make sure you double check any content you publish.

Advertisements

Visitors prefer to navigate a neat and well laid out website. You can continue showing ads while keeping a user-friendly layout. Just like you, you wouldn't want to visit a website with ads all over the place right? Keep the ads in a specific section of the page to keep things clean and organized.

Too Much Animation

Animated graphics and flash players are truly eye-catching but if there's too much, it can actually strain the eyes. Not to mention, these elements will result to slow loading pages-another annoyance for website visitors.

Your website is a place where visitors can know more about your product and services. It is not enough that you bring them to your website, you have to make them stay as well. If you are guilty of one horrendous web design mistake, you have to act fast. Ever second counts in the world of online marketing and sales. Do not let an opportunity pass you by.
