If you intend to obtain New York Arrest Records, you can get them at the New York Department of Corrections. The agency is the office assigned to maintain arrest documents and also offer them, since they are deemed part of public documents, to citizens who places a request for them. To begin a search, secure the proper request form at the department or download it from their official website, and fill it out with the required details. Make sure that the details that you provide are up to date because it is critical for the search results. You should be able to at least provide the full name of the person whose documents you want to get to get a search on the way. There are fees that you need to pay for every request that you place. They are payable by money order or a certified check and you will not be given a refund even if the documents you requested for are not found.

Every arrest conducted is documented accordingly, regardless whether it results to incarceration or not. Name of the person, nature of offense committed, date and place where it was committed, and the name of the arresting officer who made the arrest are just some of the information that you will find on an arrest document. The documents of individuals who are found guilty of the offense charged against them become permanent and consequently become available for the public to view or access. The documents of those who are found not guilty are not made available to the public but they will remain in the custody of the arresting agency that made the arrest for future references.

It is allowed to access your own arrest record, if you have any. When you go over your own record and find any inaccuracy in it, you can call the attention of the custodian of the record and request that it be looked at so that the proper corrections can be made. If you want to access the records of other people, you will have to be a member of the law enforcement, a legal representative, an employer, or a landlord, to name a few. The extent of access that will be granted will depend on the reason for wanting to get the record.

There are guidelines that need to be followed in terms of how the files can be used. The court acknowledges the files as a supporting document for a legal proceeding. It can also be used as a means of getting valuable information when performing history checks. It is strictly prohibited to use them to defame, harass, embarrass, or blackmail others. Anyone caught not following these guidelines shall be penalized accordingly by law.

Arrest records can also be obtained from online service providers. There are those that are authorized to maintain and provide the records to the public. However, not all of the service providers that you will find on the Internet are legit. Conduct a background check on them first and gather as much information as you can about them until you are convinced that they are legit.

You can also initiate a search for Criminal Records Free To Public. There are websites that will allow you to do a free search for arrest documents. But in case you do not find any, you can head to the state archives and try looking for the documents there. You will most probably get the basic details of the documents if you are doing a free search.
