Nowadays, most of the businesses are targeting to increase their geographical presence across the world via doing their business in different countries. So being aware of the customs clearance process is becoming very important. The customs clearance process and guidelines will vary from country to country and one should be aware of this if they intend to do business across different countries.

The duration or the length of the clearance process depends on the type or the category of goods that a business is transferring as part of import or export transactions. There are some goods that you may need to show some additional licenses apart from the commonly listed documents. In addition, there are many steps involved starting from reporting the arrival of goods in the Custom department to the release of the goods after custom clearance process. The main task that a person or business should do with reference to the clearance process is nothing but providing the documents along with meeting all the requirements that are defined by Customs department. The main clearance involves the declaration when you carry any goods for any commercial purpose into any country. There will be a specially designated officer called Customs and Border Protection officer in charge of this process.

The customs clearance process will start from the minute the goods are received at the checkpoint. You would need to know the processes involved to be adequately prepared. These processes include unloading, examining, screening, categorizing, paying the duties for the dutiable items and submitting the documents where the Customs clearance department will come to know about the originality of the import or export transaction etc.,

The restriction guidelines in the customs clearance process will differ from country to country. But for a business, it will be good if you know at least the commonly restricted transactions in the customs clearance process. Some common restrictions include specific drugs and weapons.

There won't be any hidden charges involved in the customs clearance process, but not entirely. Charges may also be subject to the type of transactions and the regulatory guidelines when the transaction takes place. A business must be aware of these charges so that the customs clearance process will not be a big burden for them.
